7 Heavens? Big Deal.

In this video piece, I visually interpret the themes that resonate with me in La Yugular by Rosalía, especially the spiritual tension between devotion, transcendence, and the desire to go beyond what we are taught to accept as “enough.”

The atmosphere of the song feels intimate and metaphysical at the same time, as if it’s pointing toward something greater than the visible world, something just beneath the surface of reality. At the end, the spoken words by Patti Smith about wanting to see not just seven heavens but eight, ten, a thousand heavens deeply inspired me...that refusal to stop at one version of truth or one level of experience. In my video, the lone door standing in the middle of a valley becomes a symbol of that threshold between the ordinary and the infinite.

When I walk toward it, open it, and a divine light bursts out and pulls me inside, it represents my decision to leave behind a limited, repetitive reality and step into a space of expanded possibilities. Being “sucked” into the light is not an escape, but a transformation. A surrender to growth, curiosity, and the idea that there is always more to discover beyond the first answer, the first world, the first heaven.
